The student-run newspaper, The Voice, is officially back for the 2024-2025 school year. Packed with innovative writers and student reporters supported by a growing journalism curriculum, the newspaper is full of articles chronicling student issues, events and interests through News, Features, Arts & Entertainment, Sports and Opinion sections. The newspaper will publish online articles frequently throughout the year, and periodically distribute special edition paper copies to the student body.
Students are eager to take advantage of the opportunity. “The paper has allowed me to improve my communications skills and my writing skills,” said senior News Editor Rithvik Hari. “I am able to write about topics that interest me and the rest of HHS.”
The Newspaper students also work closely with student writers enrolled in Exploring Journalism, an elective course that develops career-ready skills like interviewing, researching, writing, photography, marketing and technology. These students can develop their writing for practice or for publication.
From interviewing staff and peers to using the building blocks of design, grammar, and research to form stories, the newspaper class allows students to develop their writing in a fast-paced environment. “Newspaper has allowed me to explore a different kind of writing than I have found in a standard English class. You gain meaningful experience working with others in a deadline-based setting similar to a job I might have in the future. I recommend this class to all,” said senior Business Manager Ava Clarke.
