Graduation hat with diploma and books

New Jersey Public Law 2023, Chapter 295, requires that all public high school students complete either the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the New Jersey Alternative Financial Aid Application (NJAFAA) or an opt-out form as a condition for receiving their high school diploma.

This law is designed to ensure that students are aware of and can access financial aid opportunities to help them pursue higher education or training programs after graduation. Completing one of these applications can open doors to grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study programs that can make post-secondary education more affordable.

Each senior is required to complete a form in the Genesis Parent Portal (in the parent/guardian account), under Forms, indicating your plans to either file a financial aid application or opt-out of doing so. Please read the instructions on the form carefully to ensure you select the correct choice for your family.
